- The city of Sherwood planned to take a building many people considered a throwaway and put it to new use. O'Brien, along with Deca Architecture, Don Sieckmann Metal
Fab, and the city's project team, overcame budget restraints through creative problem solving to make their project a reality. When budgetary limits ruled out a cable truss system to support
the soccer field roof, the team found a less expensive solution by mounting the support beams above the roof, giving the field house 3 feet more of headroom. Most of the 34,000-square-foot
building is now used to house city public works operations. The remaining 12,000 square feet is used for the field house, which includes an indoor soccer field, reception area, locker rooms
and restrooms.
